MPH Students & Alums Assist in Disaster Relief and Recovery in Nepal

When Meagan Cain, a Colorado School of Public Health student at the University of Northern Colorado, heard about the April 25 earthquake in Nepal, she realized that it might mean some changes in the summer practicum she'd arranged to set up health education and human-trafficking avoidance programs for young girls living there.

Big News! ColoradoSPH awarded $3.4 million in federal funds to be one of 10 Public Health Training Centers nationwide

For the past four years, ColoradoSPH housed one of 37 Public Health Training Centers in the nation dedicated to building the capacity of the nation's public health workforce. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) decided to reduce the training centers to just 10 nationwide, and ColoradoSPH applied and was selected to the elite group. The Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center (RM-PHTC) will serve a six-state region of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and 32 Tribal Nations (Region 8 of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service).

Rocky Mountain Region Public Health Case Competition

Following the successful launch of the Rocky Mountain Region Public Health Case Competition on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus last spring, ColoradoSPH's Student Council opened their fall event to all other schools and colleges at CU Anschutz, as well as undergraduate public health students in Colorado. On Nov. 7, 96 undergraduate and graduate students were placed into 6-person teams, given a case related to marijuana and public health in Colorado, and had 24 hours to prepare a solution. The winning team will be traveling to Emory University in March to compete in the national public health case competition.

A recap of Colorado School of Public Health's 2014 Symposia

Experts from the vast spectrum of industry, academia, and research have gathered multiple times at ColoradoSPH this year to discuss the medical and public policy implications of Colorado's timely public health topics. The first symposium focused on Colorado's new cannabis laws and the drug's impact, while our summer symposium focused on the public health and environmental impacts of oil and gas development. In the fall, we turned our attention to obesity and also put together a mini symposium to respond to the Ebola news to ensure people had the facts. Click below to see recordings of these sessions.
