Student Fees
 

Tuition and fees at the university have been established by the Board of Regents, the governing body of the University of Colorado, and is subject to change any time.

Mandatory Student Fees

2012-2013 Rates
Per Term Per Credit Hour

Auraria Bond (AHEC Bond)
Assessed to retire the construction bonds for the Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Early Learning Center, and The Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Facilities on the Auraria Campus.

Phoenix Center*
Assists in funding the Phoenix Center, a free and confidential campus-based victim services and education program for sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. This fee will expire Spring 2016.

Cultural Events
Provides funding for CU Denver's College of Arts and Media to provide cultural and arts performances and to allow for reduced admission rates for students to attend theatrical and other cultural events. This fee was approved by the student government.

Energy Renewal*
Provides funding for Sustainable Campus Program including increasing the current renewable energy program, increasing overall energy efficiency of campus buildings, increasing current recycling and integrated waste management programs, reducing per capita water use on campus, and supporting the marketing of efforts made in these areas to the campus population through educational programs. This fee will expire Spring 2016.

Information Technology
Provides funding for acquisition of technology to support student computing laboratories including computers, printers, and networking infrastructure.

RTD Bus Pass*
The Auraria Student RTD College Pass provides unlimited RTD bus for Local, Limited, Express, or Regional service, as well as light rail service in all fare zones. The fee also provides a $5 discount on all SkyRide routes to Denver International Airport. It is not valid for special services such as, but not limited to, the BroncosRide, RockiesRide, Access-A-Ride and Guaranteed Ride Home programs. Students must get and display a valid term decal on their ID badge for RTD inspection.

Student Activity
Provides funding for student government, student clubs, and student events. This fee was approved by the student government.

Student Health Center
Provides funding for an accessible outpatient, direct-care service that is devoted to meeting student health care needs. Health education and counseling are available, as well as treatment and referral for medical problems. The Student Health Center is available to all students on the Auraria Campus and is administered by Metropolitan State College of Denver. The payment of this fee does not cover the Denver Campus Health Insurance Plan. Please call 303-556-6273 to receive information on student health insurance. This fee was approved by the student government.

Student Information System (SIS)
Provides funding for maintenance of the student information system (ISIS) used to support such functions as admission and application processing, course registration and grade reporting, degree audit and graduation checkout, awarding of financial aid, payment of tuition and fees and production of transcripts.

Student Newspaper
Provides funding for the CU Denver student newspaper. Available online at: The Advocate. This fee was approved by the student government.

Student Recreation
Provides funding for the recreational facilities and programs in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building, as well as the campus playing fields and club sport programs. Student Recreation is available to all students on the Auraria Campus and is administered by the Metropolitan State University of Denver. This fee was approved by the student government.

Student Services
Provides funds for a number of student support programs and events including: The Career Center, Center for Educational Opportunity Programs, Learning Assistance Center, Office of Student Life, Student Advocacy Center, the CU Denver Counseling Center, etc.

Per Term Per Credit Hour

Candidate for Degree
Equal to one credit hour of resident tuition and is required for all graduate students who are not registered during the term that they are taking comprehensive examinations. Students must register as "candidate for degree" and pay for one hour of corresponding resident tuition plus the SIS fee and the Information Technology fee for one term only.

    

International Student
Provides funding for services provided to international students, programs and events sponsored by the Office of International Education. Permanent Residents are excused from the fee.

Matriculation
A one-time non-refundable fee required of all new students (including transfer students) at the time of their first registration as a degree seeking student. This fee covers the costs of official transcripts for life, new student orientation, graduation, immunization, and student ID card.

Online Courses

  • A $100 course fee is assessed for each online course taken.
  • A $50 course fee is assessed for each online lab taken.
  • A $50 course fee is assessed for each hybrid course taken.

All students registered for one or more Architecture and Planning courses are required to pay a per credit hour instructional program fee for computer, studio, and photography equipment and materials.

College of Arts and Media (CAM)

All students registered for one or more Arts and Media courses are required to pay an instructional program fee for laboratories, studios, and technologies.

All students registered for one or more Business courses are required to pay an instructional program fee for computer lab equipment, instructional materials, and technical assistance.

All students registered for one or more Education courses are required to pay an instructional program fee for technology support, test protocols, and assessment instruments.

All students registered for one or more Engineering courses are required to pay an instructional program fee for laboratory facility, equipment, and technical assistance.

  Bioengineering BIOE 5030 and 5031

These fees fund the use of Anschutz Medical Campus laboratory equipment for students to study human anatomy.  Course expenses include the use of available imaging equipment, technical support, a virtual cadaver component, and imaging-related supplies

Course Drop Charge
Beginning the second Tuesday of the semester until census date, a drop charge will be assessed each time a student drops a course. If a student withdraws (therefore dropping all classes), a drop charge will be assessed for each course. Students should consult the official Academic Calendar for specific drop deadlines each semester.

Registration Advance Payment
All CU Denver students taking classes through the Denver Campus are required to make a registration advance payment before they may register for classes each semester. The ONLY two exceptions to this requirement are students whose FAFSA has been received by the Office of Financial Aid, or students who have not been admitted to an academic program at CU Denver and are only taking Extended Studies courses. Please see the Billing and Enrollment Policy for complete details.

Deferred Payment Plan Charge
Students who choose to take advantage of the Deferred Payment Plan are subject to a $35 charge for electing this option.

Outstanding Balance Service Charge
Students who do not pay their University bill by the payment due date indicated on their electronic billing statement (e-bill) are subject to a service charge each month on the past due portion of their account balance.

Returned Check Charge
Students who submit invalid bank items (checks, e-checks, etc.) to CU Denver are subject to a returned check charge.  This includes but is not limited to items returned for insufficient funds, stopped payments, and invalid account numbers.
