Bio

Dr. Erbert is a past member of the UTEP Department of Communication faculty and was a research fellow in the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies. He was the founder/director of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies and a co-founder of the Center for Organizational Innovation and Human Development. Larry served as associate editor for the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships from 2006-2011. Larry serves as an advisory board member for MSS/MHUM, a steering committee member for University Honors and Leadership Program, the director of the mediation certification, and a member of the sustainability minor faculty.  

Scholarly interests: environmental communication, sustainability, organizational communication—leadership, team-building, and change, conflict, mediation, and negotiation. He is currently working on two book projects: Communication Theory in Everyday Life (with Floyd, Trethewey, and Schrodt) and Conflict Communication Basics (with Duck and Aleman). Current empirical projects focus on environmental sustainability, blindsided conflict, and communication at the U.S./Mexico border.   

Dr. Erbert teaches courses in organizational leadership and change, organizational communication, communication and conflict, negotiation and bargaining, qualitative research methods, interpersonal communication, environmental communication, leadership and sustainability. Research publications can be found in outlets such as: The Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, Western Journal of Communication, Small Group Research, Journal of Social Psychology, Communication Studies, and the Iowa Journal of Communication.
