Professor Anderson has published over 70 technical papers, reports and reviews and made over 150 technical presentations in these areas. He has served as a member of the Editorial Review Board (1987-2004) of the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association and three years as an Associate Editor (2000-2004) of the Journal. He was presented outstanding service award for serving as Technical Program Co-Chair for Air Issues for the 1993 Annual Meeting of the Air & Waste Management Association. He was presented a Special Award for Excellence in Applied Research, by the University of Colorado at Denver, April 1993. He was presented the Lyman A. Ripperton Award for distinguished achievement to an educator in a field of air pollution control by the Air & Waste Management Association in June 1999. Currently (2009- ), he serves as an Editor of the Journal of Sustainable Energy & Environment (JSEE). JSEE is the official journal of the SEE Forum. He has also served as the primary research director for over 60 Masters degree graduates.

Professor Anderson also has extensive experience outside the University. He was a Staff Research Scientist and Group Leader for Atmospheric Chemistry at General Motors Research Labs (1973-1982). He has been a Visiting Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (1982-84), and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories (1990-91). He has been a Visiting Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy (1998), and at the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment, King Mongkut's University of Technology-Thonburi, Bangkok, THAILAND (2004-05, 2009). He served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist at Taraz State University in Taraz, KAZAKHSTAN in 2008, and has continued to return to the University and work with their program since then.
