Managing Leave for Classified and University Staff/Faculty Positions

The course will cover all types of leave including annual, sick, FMLA, Short Term Disability (STD), injury (worker’s compensation), holiday, bereavement, military, jury, and administrative.

Classified Staff Leave:
Includes an in-depth look at classified leave rules as specified in Chapter 5 of the Department of Personnel Board Rules and Personnel Director’s Administrative Procedures. The rules and policies will be explained in layman’s terms with on-the-job examples.

University Staff/Faculty Leave:
Includes an in depth look at University of Colorado leave policies as specified in Policy 11 of the Board of Regent’s Administrative Procedures. The policies will be explained in layman’s terms with on the job type examples.

Intended Audience: Supervisors, although all are welcome to attend

Class Duration: 2 hours

 

Managing Employees With Health Conditions

The course, “Managing Employees with Health Conditions,” is designed to assist managers and supervisors to successfully navigate the challenges of implementing a variety of relevant policies and procedures as they relate to an employee who may be experiencing a medical condition(s). In this two-hour course, we will address the needs of employees, as well as the concerns of supervisors, managers and unit leaders, when sick leave, Family Medical Leave (FML), and reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are requested or required.

Intended Audience: Supervisors, although all are welcome to attend

Class Duration: 2 hours

 

Preventing Workplace Violence

Critical to preventing violence from happening in your workplace is recognizing the warning signs and behaviors that can lead to it. This session provides understanding of the many forms those warning signs can take and also the situations that can spawn them. Learn how to assess those indicators and how to appropriately respond to a crisis situation.

Intended Audience: All University employees

Class Duration: 2 hours

 

Teambuilding/ DiSC

An important key in working together successfully as a team is to recognize your co-workers' different behavioral styles and motivators and move toward their appreciation. This session lays out four different primary behavior types and how to recognize, improve communications with and motivate each of them. In this session you will learn:

  • To predict likely trends in individual's behaviors
  • Adaptive behaviors to deal with conflict more effectively
  • To structure an environment for maximum productivity and teamwork

Intended Audience: All University employees

Class Duration: 1 half-day session

Cost: $22 per notebook for program participants

Registration: The DiSC training is a teambuilding training that requires a minimum of 6 employees to hold the training. In order to proceed with registration, please email training requests to CU Denver HR.TrainingRegistration@ucdenver.edu.

 

Understanding and Applying the State Classified Rules

This course is designed to provide a foundation for supervisors to understand supervision in the State personnel system. This course will discuss the Personnel Board Rules and the Administrative Procedures with regard to the following:

  • Organization Responsibilities and Ethics
  • Fair Employment Practices
  • Job Evaluation
  • Compensation
  • Employment and Status
  • Leave
  • Performance Management
  • Progressive Discipline
  • Dispute Resolution
  • Separation

Intended Audience: All supervisors of state classified employees

Class Duration: 1 day or 2 half-day sessions

 

Writing Performance Goals

The purpose of this course is to understand the importance of clearly defined and well written performance expectations and to teach supervisors:

  • The elements of concise, well written goals/objectives
  • How to avoid some common pitfalls and mistakes when constructing methods of measuring performance
  • A method of communicating performance expectations to your employees
  • Creative performance measurement techniques
  • Simple documentation processes

This course is geared toward supervisors who are responsible for setting and communicating performance expectations, periodically documenting performance and the overall performance evaluation.

Intended Audience: All University employees

Class Duration: 2 hours

Note: "Writing Performance Goals" compliments the "Performance Management" class, however, it is not a substitute for Performance Management class.

 

Crucial Conversations Training – Website Description
Crucial Conversations Training teaches skills for communicating when stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. Put our award-winning training to work and you’ll be able to surface the best ideas, make high-quality decisions, and act on those decisions with unity and commitment. This course will teach you the techniques of how to deal with difficult situations such as:
·         People who cannot resolve conflicts or come to an agreement
·         People who withhold feedback and important information from management
·         Issues difficult to discuss
·         Not knowing how to start a tough conversation
·         An emotionally charged environment
Cost: $265.00 non-refundable fee for course materials
 
Registration: In order to proceed with registration, please have the approval from your department Administrator/Chair or designee and they can forward a speed type where your course materials will be charged.
 
When registering for the course, please understand there is a time commitment of 16 hours for this training: please register for a training where you can attend its entirety. If you have signed up for a session and are unable to attend, please remove your registration as soon as possible.
