Aya Ahram is a third-year student at the University of Colorado Denver, majoring in Biology and minoring in Leadership Studies, which is a degree that she earns as a result of her membership in the University Honors and Leadership Program. Once she graduates in 2014, she plans on pursuing a career in medicine, although she is not yet sure of what area she will specialize in. To expose herself to working with diverse communities, as well as immersing herself in the health field, she volunteers in the Emergency Department at the University of Colorado Hospital, works with senior women who have immigrated from Iraq, and is an intern with MedAdvance, which is a student run group, operated through the Scientific Educational Research Institute. Aya is excited to become a part of the 2013-2014 UPP cohort and believes that the invaluable exposure she will gain to various disciplines in the medical field will further educate and enrich her understanding of the role she will be serving in the future. She hopes that participating in UPP will also be a critical focal point in her pre-medical career that will allow her to truly find her passion and give her the drive and motivation necessary for success for herself and her community. In her spare time, Aya enjoys yoga, hiking, reading and socializing.
