Kristen Mahler

Undergraduate Pre-Health Program | 2012-2013 Cohort

Kristen Mahler is a third year student at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, majoring in Biology and Anthropology.  Her goal is to become either a neonatologist or a perinatologist.  Kristen knew she wanted to become a doctor after her experience as a combat medic in the Army, where she served 15 months in Iraq and earned numerous awards.  A unique major event in Kristen's life was the unexpected death of her 5 month old daughter Suvie in November 2010.  This tragic experience taught her empathy and has given Kristen the drive and motivation she needs to be in such a high demand career.  Kristen is a big sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.  She is also the March of Dimes Registration Coordinator for the annual March for Babies event.

Kristen enjoys international volunteering and has had the experience of volunteering in the Children's Hospital in Morocco.  She is thrilled to be a part of UPP and KP, because she will gain important knowledge about becoming the best doctor she can be.
