Saeed Gholizadeh

Undergraduate Pre-Health Program | 2011-2012 Cohort

Saeed Gholizadeh is originally from Tehran, Iran. he has been here for 7 years. he was 16 when he moved here, and when he was asked about what was the significant difference, he said : "I have to say it was a whole different world for me. Everything was completely different ; culture, education system , whatever you can imagine. It was difficult for me to get used to the new environment at first, but as time went by I started to adapt to my surroundings". One thing about his personality that stands out is that he is a really persistent individual, He works really hard to achieve his goals in life no matter what life throws at him. Saeed has gone through a lot of difficulties in his life, but none of those stopped him from believing in himself and perusing his goals. Saeed has recently joined UPP , and what he had to say about UPP was, "I have to say I'm really honored and privileged to be a part of this amazing program. I have learned so much , that it is impossible to describe in words". This summer Saeed had the pleasure of shadowing Dr. Schoen, who is a well known and well respected bariatric surgeon at the University Colorado Hospital, and he had the opportunity to shadow him both in the O.R and in clinics. He was exposed to a lot of interesting and cutting edge medical procedures. Most importantly, Saeed was able to experience the patient interaction and how it is to approach different patients with different backgrounds and from different groups. It would be a dream come true for Saeed to one day join the faculty and health care providers at Kaiser Permanente and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in unlocking the fundamental mechanisms of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease that takes away lives of thousands every year. He is certain that the conductive environment at Kaiser Permanente and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and various opportunities and great programs such as UPP, will help him gain experience and help him climb up the latter of success and allow him to use his experiences and make it possible to contribute back to the society. Available laboratories, facilities , and experienced faculties and health care providers and opportunities such as UPP will create near to perfect situations for Saeed to explore more into science and grow technically, scientifically and professionally.‚Äč
