hPod
Health Profession Opportunity Day (hPod) Partnership with the Recruiting and Retaining the Youth of Color Task Force (Colorado Department of Public Health - Office of Health Disparities). hPod is a day-long pre-health profession seminar which is open to all undergraduate and high school students. The seminar unites 300 diverse middle school, and high school students from around the state for an in-depth look at the different health professions. Activities include workshops, speakers, and hands-on activities that will introduce students to different health field and opportunities in higher education. Students are presented with the opportunity to explore the many possibilities in the health careers and learn about the educational path one must take to reach his or her ultimate goal of becoming a health care professional.
Aurora LIGHTS Programs
The Colorado and Central AHECs, along with the Aurora Public Schools, are excited to announce a new collaboration called Aurora LIGHTS (Leading the way in Health Sciences). The Aurora LIGHTS Career Program is a new partnership designed to help minority and disadvantaged students succeed in science, enroll in pre-med and health sciences school programs and become health science professionals. Aurora LIGHTS is engaging a range of partners with expertise and resources to help students achieve this goal; in addition to AHEC and Aurora Public Schools, these include the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, Community College of Aurora and the Metropolitan Community Provider Network (Aurora’s local community health network). This collaboration will support educationally and economically disadvantaged students to enter a pipeline program extending from kindergarten through the health professional schools at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus with a focus on education, recruitment and retention in the health sciences. Open to: Students from Aurora Public Schools, K-12, Undergraduates, and Professional students.

Combined BA/BS-MD Degree Program
The BA/BS-MD degree program is a partnership between CU Denver College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the CU School of Medicine. The purpose of the program is to assemble 8-10 outstanding students from broadly diverse backgrounds that are committed to serving the health care needs of Colorado. Being accepted into the program, and successfully completing the requirements, enables you to have a reserved seat in a top-ranked medical school while having the freedom to explore other interests during your exciting college years at both the Denver Campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus.
Denver School of Science and Technology
By developing a collaboration between DSST and the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, the latter will be providing a forum were their teachers and our faculty can talk about ideas on how to do project based (as well as basic content) instruction for their math and science classes. This includes mini-clinics centered on specific problems or hands on projects/experiments in their science and math classes throughout their academic year. During the summer sessions we will arrange Health Sciences Career Explorer Programs for their students and provide currents students to act as tutors/mentors for their students.
The Denver STaRS
This prgrom provides positive exposure to the Anschutz Medical Campus for junior and senior high school students just beginning to explore career and education options in clinical translational sceince and biomedical fields. This program includes many students from the DSST.
Skinner Middle School Science Camp
This program provides students that are involved with College 4 Y.O.U. Pre-Collegiate an opportunity to explore the Health Sciences careers as part of visitations to area colleges. These visitations are held on Saturdays and are called Saturday Academy's. There are four DPS middle schools (Cole, Lake, Rishel, and Skinner) that are a part of this program. 90% of the students involved in this program are minority, first-generation, and eligible for free and reduced lunch program. These students possess a 3.5 GPA or higher and have a 95% attendance rate. With this partnership we provide instructors for after school workshops, Saturday campus visits, summer programming.
