Raul Cardenas, Jr. was born in El Paso, Tex. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Pepperdine University, his Masters from Northern Arizona University and his PhD from Arizona State University (ASU).
Cardenas has focused his career on ensuring people have an opportunity to access higher education and earn a degree. He helped to create and implement two charter high schools that served predominately high-risk students. He also has worked at Arizona State University and Colorado State University.
Most recently, Cardenas served at the University of Northern Colorado as the assistant vice president of Student Engagement and as dean of Students. He has worked for more than 17 years in administrative roles during a 21+ year career of educational leadership.
Cardenas possesses extensive experience in university leadership, retention and access-related issues, and has extensive experience in higher education particularly in enrollment management, marketing, retention and pre-collegiate program development and implementation.
