 College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Dean Search

March 26, 2014

​Dear Colleagues, 

The Co​llege of Liberal Arts and Sciences Search Committee, chaired by Barry Shur, Dean of the Graduate School, has identified three candidates as finalists from a distinguished group of applicants. 

The finalists are as follows, with brief information about each:​

  • David Hassenzahl, PhD, is Founding Dean and Professor, Falk School of Sustainability at Chatham University, where he has been since 2010. Prior to that he was Chair, Department of Environmental Studies, and Acting Director, School of Environmental and Public Affairs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

  • Pamela Jansma, PhD, is Dean of the College of Science and Professor, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she has been since 2009. Prior to that she was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.

  • John Hutchinson, PhD, is Dean of Undergraduates (since 2010) and Professor of Chemistry at Rice University. He has been on the faculty at Rice University since 1983.

 College of Arts and Media Dean Search

The College of Arts & Media Dean Search Committee, chaired by Mark Gelernter, Dean and Professor of Architecture, College of Architecture and Planning, has identified four candidates as finalists from a distinguished group of applicants. 

  • Debra A. Davis, MFA, is a Professor of New Media, and has been Dean (since 2010) of the College of Communication and the Arts at the University of Toledo, where she has been since 2000.  Prior to that she was Associate Professor of Digital Media, University of West Florida.

  • Laurence Kaptain, DMA, MM, is Director of Creative Initiatives and Manship Professor of Music, Office of Research and Economic Development, Louisiana State University.  Prior to that he was Dean and Penniman Family Professor of Music, College of Music and Dramatic Arts, Louisiana State University.

  • Joann Brennan, MFA, is a Professor of Photography and the current Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado Denver, where she has been since 1998.  Prior to that she was Assistant Professor of Photography at the School of Art & Design, State University of New York at Alfred University.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor-Office of International Affairs Search Committee, chaired by Manuel Serapio, PhD, of the Business School, has identified four candidates as finalists from a distinguished group of applicants. 

The finalists are as follows, with brief information about each:

  • Sara Allaei, M.A., is Executive Director for International Affairs and Assistant Vice President for International Services at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).  Sara has been with IUPUI for most of her professional career.

  • Luchen Li, PhD, currently serves as the Associate Dean of Global Programs and Professor of American Literature & Cultural Studies at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Indiana.  Prior to that time, Luchen served as director of International Programs and Chair of the International Programs Committee at Kettering University, Flint, Michigan.

  • Rebecca Brown, PhD, is director for the Center for International Programs at Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Brown served as Director for International Programs at the University of Idaho.

The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Affairs. The Assistant Vice Chancellor will lead the Office of International Affairs in its mission to serve strategic international goals and objectives. This position works closely with deans and campus leadership to provide strategic direction, leadership and support to further internationalization efforts and is responsible for overseeing the delivery of all international affairs functions, including Global Education (Study Abroad), International Colleges and Partnerships, the English as a Second Language Academy, Sponsor Relations, International Enrollment Management, International Student and Scholar Services and International Operations.
