When developing new university-approved centers and institutes, the university follows the CU Administrative Policy Statement, “Procedures for the Establishment of Centers, Institutes, Laboratories and Bureaus”. Early in the process be sure your school/college dean is aware and approves of your plans to form a center.
Documentation for centers and institutes must include the following:
- Program plan
- Revenue and expenditure budgets, reviewed and approved by a campus budget analyst
- By-laws, reviewed and approved by Legal Counsel. View the by-laws template.
Faculty and staff who develop centers or institutes are to meet with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Marguerite Childs and Budget Analyst Jonathan Lurie for assistance with the process and to ensure proper procedures are being followed. When ready, AVC Childs will forward the request to approve the center to the provost and chancellor (or for institutes, to the provost, chancellor and regents).
