When developing new university-approved centers and institutes, the university follows the CU Administrative Policy Statement 1008, “Procedures for the Establishment of Centers, Institutes, Laboratories and Bureaus." Early in the process be sure your school/college dean is aware and approves of your plans to form a center or institute.
Documentation for centers and institutes must include the following:
- Program plan
- Revenue and expenditure budgets, reviewed and approved by a campus budget analyst
- Bylaws, reviewed and approved by Legal Counsel. View the bylaws template.
Faculty and staff who develop centers or institutes are to meet with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning Terry Potter and Budget Analyst Tobin Bliss for assistance with the process and to ensure proper procedures are being followed. When ready, AVC Potter will forward the request to approve the center to the provost and chancellor (or for institutes, to the provost, chancellor and regents).
