Web Site Creation

When does NTOTAP start, and how long does it last?
NTOTAP starts in June 2011 and lasts for one year.  Website creation lasts for 6 months (June - November 2011 or December 2011 - May 2012.

Who can participate?
An organization can nominate 1 employee to participate.  This person will  focus on learning technology/software and  developing content.

Others from the organization can contribute in different ways (e.g., reviewing drafts, providing feedback).

How does the program teach technology skills?
Skills are taught in several ways:

  • In-person training (at the CAIANH office in Denver, CO and/or at the organization)
  • Distance education
  • Phone, e-mail, and Web support

Participants will leave NTOTAP with the ability to maintain and update their projects, as well as to create new ones.

What happens during the six-month time frame?
Project development consists of several steps:

  • Participants begin by planning their project layouts and learning the skills needed to build their projects electronically
  • Throughout the six months, they share their work with their organizations and with community members for evaluation and feedback
  • At the end, they finalize their projects and disseminate them to their communities

Do organizations have to pay to participate in NTOTAP?
No, organizations do not have to pay.  NTOTAP covers travel costs and provides a budget for each project (administered  by NTOTAP staff).

NTOTAP will also help to defray costs to organizations while their participants attend training and work on their projects.

Equipment such as laptop computers can be checked out for the duration of the program.

Other important points
Because of the short time frame, participants will only be able to develop small Web sites (5-7 pages) while in NTOTAP.

The time frame is short and the workload is intense, so participants will need time to work on their projects as part of their regular job duties.

Digital Storytelling

When does NTOTAP start, and how long does it last?
Starting in June 2011, NTOTAP staff will hold several one-week digital storytelling sessions.

Each participating organization may send an attendee to one session and create one digital story.  NTOTAP staff will work with organizations to schedule the sessions.

What happens during a digital storytelling session?
The steps in the digital storytelling process include:

  • Writing and revising a script
  • Learning to use audio, video, and photo editing software
  • Recording a voiceover
  • Selecting photos and music
  • Putting all the elements together to complete the story
  • Sharing your story with other participants

Most of the work is hands-on.

Participants will return home with a CD of their completed, 3- to 5-minute digital story, as well as all source files.  They will also gain the skills needed to create additional stories on their own.

Do organizations have to pay to participate in NTOTAP?
No, organizations do not have to pay.

NTOTAP covers travel costs.

During the digital storytelling session, participants will use software and computers at the CAIANH office in Denver, Colorado.

Other important points
Although the digital storytelling process is rewarding, it is also intensive.  We ask that participants commit to attending the entire session.  Arriving late or leaving early is not recommended.

Participants may be asked to begin working on some parts of the process before the session begins.  NTOTAP staff will provide guidance for these activities.
