We support the use of scientific evidence to achieve healthy outcomes while making the best use of money spent on medications and their management. Description: The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) is the nation’s leading professional association dedicated to increasing patient access to affordable medicines, improving health outcomes and ensuring the wise use of health care dollars. Through evidence- and value-based strategies and practices, the Academy’s 8,000 pharmacists, physicians, nurses and other practitioners manage medication therapies for the 270 million Americans served by health plans, pharmacy benefit management firms, emerging care models and government.
Membership requirements: $65 ($15 local, $50 national),
Benefits: AMCP serves its members in many ways, including through live national conferences, online learning programs, research in peer-reviewed literature and advocacy. Each is designed with the goal of advancing professional knowledge, improving the design and delivery of pharmacy benefits, and ultimately, patient satisfaction and health outcomes. As a student member at the University of Colorado, being a member will ensure that you are exposed to concepts like disease management, formulary management and outcomes research from guest speakers and during our annual Round Table mixer in the spring.
AMCP also offers summer internships, amazing conferences, and great networking opportunities with other students and managed care pharmacists in Colorado! Come to our info session at the beginning of the school year to learn more about what our membership has to offer!
Events: AMCP-CU has a year packed with great events. Give back to your community by volunteering at our annual Medicare Part D Outreach in October where you can help senior citizens navigate selecting the best Part D plan for them and answer medication questions. November marks the start of our P&T Competition preparation where teams of four to six students begin working on a clinical case presented by the Foundation of Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP). This culminates in January where teams give their final presentation and one team is selected for submission to the national competition. In April, students can network with professionals working in the managed care field through our Round Table mixer event. Throughout the year, we also have workshops where members can learn about managed care concepts as well as professional development workshops on topics like recommendation letters, personal branding, and
