Core Curriculum and General Education Requirements

Information

Since 1990, UC Denver's undergraduate colleges have utilized an undergraduate, campus-wide core curriculum. The assumptions that underlie it are that students earning bachelor's degrees should master the basic intellectual competencies (mathematics, reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking); they should be broadly educated as well as trained in a particular discipline; they should be acquainted with all of the fundamental knowledge; and they should have opportunities for making academic choices.

The following reflects the UC Denver core curriculum as passed by the faculty in each of the undergraduate colleges, which became effective in Fall 2006. For help in selecting appropriate core courses, please see an academic advisor in your college.

Credit Hours

The core curriculum is a total of 34-38 credit hours compiled in each of the four following areas; Intellectual Competencies (9-10 hrs), Knowledge Areas (19-22 hrs), Cultural Diversity (3 hrs), and International Perspectives (3 hrs).
