Student Health Insurance

University of Colorado Denver

The CU Denver Student Health Insurance Office is dedicated to helping students in all areas of health insurance-related issues and promoting quality health insurance information to the student customer.

Domestic Students

As of August 2016, the University of Colorado Denver is no longer offering an optional health insurance plan for domestic (non-international) students.
Under the Affordable Care Act, the federal government requires that U.S. citizens have health insurance coverage or pay a fee on their next federal tax return. CU Denver does not have its own requirement that students have coverage, but had historically offered an optional health insurance plan to students. However, since the opening of the health insurance exchange marketplace in 2014, the market for health insurance has changed. More affordable care is available, and the market for optional university health plans has practically disappeared.

Students should visit, the official State Health Insurance Exchange for Colorado, to explore their health insurance options.
International Students

International Students

The University has a mandatory health insurance plan for all international students in the non-immigrant visa categories of F-1 and J-1.

If you are covered under comparable coverage, you may qualify to waive out of the University issued student health insurance plan. Every student wishing to be waived from the University sponsored plan must fill out and submit the waiver form once every year.
