University of Colorado at Colorado Springs – Beth El
Lisa, a 2010 Health Scholars scholarship recipient, continues to work full-time as an RN at the Springfield Community Hospital while working on her Family Nurse Practioner degree. Now in her second semester, she anticipates graduating in January of 2013. After graduation Lisa’s plans include contributing to the health of the Springfield area residents as a healthcare provider as well as developing programs that promote health and prevent disease. She is concerned about access to healthcare for the many residents who live miles from providers in this large county. She also has plans to become a certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) nurse. Currently the county is without anyone certified to help in this area. Her passion for rural healthcare prompted her to think about going back to school to become a Family Nurse Practioner, but as the sole income provider for her family, she says she would not have attempted it without the help from the Colorado Trust scholarship.
