Admission Requirements

For transfer students

Our students are some of the best and brightest - motivated individuals who are driven to pursue their passion. Learn more about what it will take to join their ranks as a CU Denver Student in one of our schools or colleges:

College of Architecture and Planning

For automatic admission to the architecture major, students must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA for all coursework attempted. Students with at least a 2.3 cumulative GPA may be considered on an individual basis if the academic record shows a consistent record of improvement and/or strong performance in science, mathematics, art or architecture-oriented courses. Students with a 2.0 to 2.29 cumulative GPA may be considered for admission as undeclared majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. If not initially admitted to the architecture program, transfer students can be reconsidered through an internal CU Denver process upon meeting the criteria outlined above.

College of Arts & Media

For majors other than music, a minimum 2.4 cumulative GPA is required, but anyone with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA may be considered.

Music Majors

Music admission is a competitive process that considers transfer admission criteria as well as additional application requirements, including scores on the AMMA examination and audition results (an audition deferment is available for applicants to the music industry studies emphasis area).

Music applications are considered only for fall semester, and early application is encouraged. Complete music applications are reviewed beginning on February 15, and the final deadline for a complete application is April 12.

Students not admitted to the music major or those who wish to begin studies in the spring or summer semester may be considered for general admission as an undeclared major in the College of Arts & Media. For additional music admission information, visit http://cam.ucdenver.edu/meis (or call 303-556-2279).

Business School

For automatic admission, students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or a 3.0 in the 24 most recent credits that apply to the degree program. Students not eligible for admission to the Business School are automatically considered for pre-business admission in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences if they have completed fewer than 80 total credits and have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

College of Engineering and Applied Science

For automatic admission to degree programs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, a full year each of college calculus and calculus-based physics (or calculus-based physics I and general college chemistry I) must be completed with "B" or better grades. The cumulative GPA must be at least 2.75.

Note: If interested in eventual admission to the bioengineering major, select "pre-bioengineering" when completing the application for admission.  There is no direct admission to bioengineering; students admitted as pre-bioengineering majors are considered for full admission to bioengineering through an internal review process which occurs after completion of specific required courses.

Students not eligible for admission to the College of Engineering and Applied Science are automatically considered for pre-engineering admission in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences if they have completed fewer than 80 total credits and have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

A minimum 2.4 cumulative gpa is required, but anyone with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA may be considered.

Colorado Community College students meeting the above GPA requirements as well as other transfer admission criteria outlined under the “What We Look For” tab will meet admission standards for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver, and in fact may be eligible for guaranteed admission.

School of Education and Human Development

For automatic admission, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.4. However, applicants with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA may be considered on a case by case basis.

School of Public Affairs

A minimum 2.4 cumulative gpa is required, but anyone with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA may be considered.
