All new international students in F or J visa classification, including any transfers from other institutions within the U.S., are required to complete ISSS Check-In Fundamentals. This is required to better prepare a student so they can be more successful in their time at the University of Colorado Denver. Some students are also required to complete New Student Orientation, please see the information below to sign up and see what you may be required to attend.
ISSS Check-In Fundamentals is designed to facilitate your successful start at CU Denver! We want to use this time to welcome and get to know you as well as share some essential information. This one-day, mandatory, event covers more detailed topics relevant to international students than CU Denver New Student Orientation and is also separate from any orientation provided by specific academic departments.
During the session, ISSS staff will review the following content:
- Collecting documents and information from you that are required in order to report critical information to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding your arrival and your program of study.
- Educate new students regarding immigration regulations that relate to their period of stay in the U.S.
- Students will be provided with information about campus services, how to obtain U.S. social security cards and driver's licenses, cultural adjustment issues, health services and insurance, and more.
Sign Up for Check-in & Fundamentals
Prior to your arrival for your Check-In Fundamentals Session, all student must complete the F-1/J-1 Compliance Form. In addition, if you are a sponsored student, you must also complete the Sponsor Release Form. Both of these forms can be accessed through the Check-in Registration form listed in the accordion above for your entry term.
Completing these forms in advance will expedite your check-in process. You must present these forms in order to be properly check-in at your session.
New Student ORIENTATION
New Student Orientation is designed to prepare you for study at CU Denver. The online orientation will help you understand the different services and how you will be successful at CU Denver. Undergraduate students are required to complete the online orientation and Graduate students will have a session facilitated by their academic department.
Undergraduate Students will need to complete the mandatory Online Undergraduate Orientation. You will receive an invite to complete this after you have been admitted to CU Denver.
Graduate Students will have an orientation with their individual departments.
