Alex is one of thirty student leaders in the F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) Program, which runs an annual leadership conference for minority students interested in pursuing a career in athletics. The 2011 conference was held July 16-19 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Alex's interests include sports psychology and competitive jumproping. She hopes to pursue sports psychology in graduate school and is currently training for the World Trials, which will qualify her for the World Rope Skipping Championships, to be held in the USA in summer 2012.
At the conference, Alex "got to meet several Olympic athletes and participated in activities based on leadership and networking. I learned a lot about how the United States Olympic Committee runs and what it takes to get into the competitive field of professional athletic careers."
