Kits for Kids
UHL Student Club
In October 2011, the UHL Student Club pooled its supplies and funds it raised through several bake sales in order to create 15 "Kits for Kids," which are collections of hygiene supplies that are sent by Project C.U.R.E. to children in underdeveloped countries. The Club has just received word from Project C.U.R.E. that their kits were shipped to Cagayan de Oro, a town located in the Philippines. Once they arrived, the kits were distributed by medical professionals to families with young children.
On December 18, 2011, the Philippines was hit by Typhoon Washi, which dumped a month's worth of water in only a few hours. The community of Cagayan de Oro was hit the hardest by numerous flash floods and landslides. Over 1,200 people lost their lives and over 60,000 individuals were left homeless. The Student Club's donation of these kits was another step forward in helping the citizens of Cagayan de Oro rebuild their community and return to their lives.
