Every year, UHL participates in the Ninth Street Park Trick
or Treat Street. During this event, children from nearby neighborhoods are
allowed a safe space to trick or treat on Halloween. This year, UHL decided to
do something different. We spoke with the organizers of the daycare (at the
other side of the Park) Halloween Parade and decided to collaborate with them
for the freshmen class to help hand out candy to all the kids as they marched
through Ninth Street. The morning of the event was a beautiful Friday morning that
just so happened to be October 31st. With juice and donuts, the
event kicked off with a group of students putting up Halloween decorations
outside Ninth Street Park. Shortly after, the UHLers in costume took their
places around the four stations.
The parade was a great success. The kids were
adorable. Their pure delight when seeing the “spooky decorations”, and all the
UHL students in costume was incredible. Overall, the event was so fun for
everyone involved and the UHLers got to be involved in the campus community
while doing something very rewarding and worthwhile.
