Derrick Gallegos works for the Office of the President for CU as a Student Assistant and was able to work at the stock show this year for CU Night. Essentially what this entailed was aiding in the preparations for the alumni that would be attending the event. Derrick was part of a team of volunteers who set out black and gold pom-poms on the seats of the Coliseum. When he was done with this task, he was able to work around and had the fortune of running into Milo the CU Denver Mascot. "As a CU Denver student, I appreciated seeing our campus represented. It meant a lot having a night dedicated to the school and being able to be there with alumni. It is always powerful to see just how big the CU community is," said Derrick.
Derrick was put in a unique spot due to his position at the Office of the President because he was asked to ride on the hitch with the handlers of Ralphie. This was an amazing experience for him and his favorite part of the night because they were taken out to the middle of the arena and waved to everyone. Derrick also got to watch Ralphie run and said of the experience that it was breath-taking. "It is always fun to dress up and attend the stock show. It is a completely different culture from walking around the campus. I had on some cowboy boots and it was a blast," says Derrick.
