CrashPlan Account Setup:

Once the client application has been installed, the account setup procedure is the same for both Windows and Mac OS X. A setup window will be presented:

If this is the first time you are settting up CrashPlan on any system, leave the setting on “New Account” and enter in the following information:

Last Name and First Name: you can leave these fields blank
User name: your UCD user name (the short name, e.g. “smithj”, not your email address)
Password: your UCD password
Registration key: enter in the following:  HTC4-HJ92-RJ8P-7PUS
PROe Server address: sop-crashplan.ucdenver.edu

Your account will be created and the backup will begin. You may now log out of your system if you wish; the backup will continue as long as the system isn't shut down, put to sleep, or disconnected from the Internet.

If you have already created an account on another computer, select "Existing Account".

Note that since CrashPlan is designed not to disrupt your use of your computer while backup is going on, and since we need to make sure that backups don’t take over the campus Internet connection, the initial backup make take a number of hours or even days depending on how much data you have to back up. Leave your computer awake and connected to the network if possible until the initial backup has completed. If you wish to exclude some files for privacy or to reduce the amount of time the backup will take, see the information in Including and Excluding Files on the Tips & Additional Information page.

If at any time you need to shut down or take your computer with you before a backup completes, that’s no problem. CrashPlan will just pause the backup, and the backup will resume when next you connect your computer to the Internet.
