Dr. Saseen teaches components of the pharmacotherapy curriculum to P2 and P3 students at the School of Pharmacy: preventive cardiology (PHRD 6095 - Pharmacotherapy 3), rheumatolology (PHRD 6750 - IOS 6), cardiovascular complications of diabetes (PHRD 7700 - IOS 9), comprehensive patient care (PHRD 7650), and professional skills (PHRD 6100) classes. He precepts post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) and PGY2 pharmacy residents in family medicine. Dr. Saseen is a clinical pharmacy specialist in the Department of Family Medicine. This includes an ambulatory practice at the A.F. Williams Family Medicine Center and inpatient service at the University of Colorado Hospital. These are clinical teaching site for the Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Colorado. Clinical pharmacy services include: providing education for medical residents and other health care providers; providing pharmacotherapy consultations; and evaluating prescribing to improve medication use. Specific areas of clinical expertise include cardiovascular risk reduction (hypertension, dyslipidemia, antiplatelet therapy), rheumatology (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), and type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Saseen participates in research related to pharmacotherapy (hypertension, dyslipidemia, rheumatoid arthritis). He has also published pharmacotherapy review articles and textbook chapters related to these and other contemporary pharmacotherapy and professional topics.
Dr. Saseen is chair of the curriculum committee at the School of Pharmacy. He is on the Board of Directors for the National Lipid Association and the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, and also is Director of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Academy Career Advancement program. Dr. Saseen is Chair of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (2013).
