JOB SUMMARY: Provides patient services; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician.
-PA: Graduate from an accredited PA program and pass National certifying Exam/Bachelor’s Degree.
-Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
-Licensed in the State of Colorado
-Eligible for DEA licensure (new graduates should obtain within a year of hire).
-National and valid state of Colorado Physician Assistant certification
-Must provide proof of 100 hours of CME every two years.
-Current and active state practicing license.
-One year of experience in ambulatory health care preferred

-Good standing with medical boards and associations.

-Primary care principles and practices, Clinical operations and practices
-Drug regimens and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects and proper administration.
-Infection control standards and safe working conditions with blood or blood-borne pathogens.
-Safety regulations applicable to medical clinic area.
-Basic surgical procedures for clinic environment, including pre-op and post-op procedures.
-Current and emergent trends in technologies, techniques, methods, issues and approaches in area of expertise.
-Clinical practice procedures including patient charting and obtaining patient histories.
-Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
-Focuses on quality of care and patient outcomes.
-Provides quality care to patient in a culturally sensitive manner.
-Emphasizes safety as a priority for patients and staff.
-Upholds professional integrity based on nationally recognized standards including HIPAA.

-Efficient use of clinic resources (i.e. supplies and equipment)

-Individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and familiarity with Electronic Health Records.
-Excellent writing and presentation skills with preference for a bilingual Spanish speaker.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations.
-Formulating a working diagnosis.
-Order and perform laboratory, radiological and special examinations or tests required for evaluation of illnesses.
-Integrate clinical data, plan subsequent diagnostic measures and manage therapeutic measures according to established guidelines.
-Advise patient on health, preventative care, diet and diseases, following consultations with supervising physician.
-Signing and completing a prescription, making appropriate referrals.
-Maintains appropriate chart documentation and does so in a timely manner.
-Perform minor surgical procedure.
The activities listed above may be performed in any place authorized by a supervising physician, including a clinic and afterhours home call coverage or other institutional setting.
Looking for a Full-Time (4 days a week) Physician Assistant for busy Internal Medicine Practice
Evaluates, plans and provides care for patients in consultation with and under direct supervision of attending Physician.
The Physician Assistant performs clinical procedures under direction of attending Physician and according to approved protocols to include performing appropriate medical screening and physical examinations, interpreting laboratory data correctly and ordering appropriate laboratory investigations.
The Physician Assistant also obtains medical and personal histories, performs physical exams, educates patients and families, conducts research activities reporting and publishing findings when completed. The ideal candidate for the Physician Assistant role maintains effective communication with patients, staff and physicians; provides patient care in a competent, professional and courteous manner; and keeps abreast of current research and incorporates relevant findings into specific areas of clinical practice.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position in the psychiatric emergency service at Denver Health Medical Center.
Common conditions treated include psychosis, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and co-morbid psychiatric and medical illness. Under the supervision of a physician, performs professional medical work in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients requiring psychiatric emergency services according to statutory limitations. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. Performs appropriate testing, writes prescriptions, and performs administrative procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. May perform administrative support functions as required. Works days and evenings/nights according to the clinical schedule.
Education: Graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant.
Experience: One year related clinical experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical principals, procedures, and community resources. Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to prepare accurate reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
Certifications and Licenses:
Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR.
Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant; must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner's. Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
