Funding Opportunities

CU Denver Affiliated Scholarships

​The University of Colorado Center for Global Health (CGH) helps to manage 2 scholarships for students working on projects abroad.  They are the Robinson-Durst Scholarship and the Rotary Scholarship. Both have deadlines of March 24, 2014 this year. GHT students have traditionally been very successful with these two opportunities. Of note, they do require letters of recommendation, so plan to give your letter writers plenty of warning! Calvin L Wilson Scholarship for Future Leaders in Global Health

  • Deadline: 24 March 2014
  • Amount: $1000
  • What they’re looking for: “Philosophically, this scholarship is grounded in a deep commitment to the long-lasting, positive value of international health care as it relates to broadening personal and academic perspectives.”

Robinson Durst Scholarship

  • Deadline: 24 March 2014
  • Amount: $2000
  • What they’re looking for: “Philosophically, the scholarship committee and its founders strongly believe in the long-lasting, positive value of global health endeavors in broadening personal and academic perspectives.”

Rotary Scholarship

  • Deadline: 24 March 2014
  • Amount: $900
  • What they’re looking for: proposed projects should fit with “the cores values of rotary, including fellowship, service, and ethical conduct.”

Also, the CU Denver Office of International Affairs has a website with numerous scholarship offerings including a Global Study Scholarship offered by the University.  Visit their website for more information.


National Scholarships

Arnold P. Gold Foundation Student Summer Fellowship

  • Deadline: “March 2014” (still waiting for specific date)
  • Amount: $4000 for 10 weeks (shorter proposals are prorated) 
  • Eligibility: Open to all full-time medical students
  • Application: Very involved. Check website for details. In addition to letters of recommendation, a Dean’s Letter is required. Allocate at least 1 month for this to be processed by the Office of Student Affairs! Terri Blevins is your contact.

Kean Travel Fellowship in Tropical Medicine

  • Deadline: “March 2014” (still waiting for specific date); applicants notified “early June”
  • Eligibility
        • Research or clinical training in tropical medicine or global health with at least one month at site endemic for tropical diseases.
        • Amount: Roundtrip airfare, up to $1000 in living expenses
        • Open to all full-time medical students.
        • Elective must begin after June 1, 2013.
        • Preference given to American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene student members ($15), applications sponsored by ACCTMTH, electives lasting longer than 1 month, applicants without previous overseas experience, applications proposing study of tropical disease other than HIV/AIDS

Stanford-NBC News Fellowship in Global Health Media

  • Deadline: February 17, 2015


CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship

  • Deadline: February 20, 2015
  • Eligibility -- You must be:
        • A medical or veterinary student in your 2nd or 3rd year when you apply
        • Enrolled in a school accredited by the:
              • Liaison Committee on Medical Education
              • American Osteopathic Association
              • American Veterinary Medical Association
        • Covered by medical insurance during the fellowship
        • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
        • Able to attend the CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship Short Course in Atlanta, August 20–23, 2015.
