I am originally from Chicago and graduated from Oberlin College, majoring in psychology. I went to medical school at the University of Chicago and did my internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Denver. I then spent two years in London getting a master’s in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and doing research in the Department of Community Medicine at St. Thomas’ Hospital. I returned to Colorado in 1984 to the Ambulatory Care Section of the Denver VA. My research interests have been primarily in clinical research, including numerous clinical trials testing drug therapy for smoking cessation. I am currently a Professor of Medicine and of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics and also the track director for Clinical Investigation in the Clinical Sciences Doctoral Program at UCD.
