The ENCOMPASS Consulting Team has a longtime affiliation with Synergy Adolescent Treatment Services, a program of the Addiction Research and Treatment Services, Department of Psychiatry, Division of Substance Dependence, and the School of Medicine, University of Colorado Denver.

Paula RiggsPaula Riggs, M.D.
Executive Director

Paula is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado. She is nationally recognized for her clinical research in adolescents and young adults with co-occurring psychiatric and substances abuse disorders.  The ENCOMPASS integrated treatment model is based on the seminal research conducted by Dr. Riggs and colleagues at the university over the past 15 years.

Robert DaviesRobert Davies, M.D.
Associate Director

Bob is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado.  He is a federally funded researcher and a highly regarded and experienced clinician in the evaluation of adolescents and young adults with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.

Christian ThurstoneChristian Thurstone, M.D.
Co-Director

Christian is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado and is board-certified in child, adolescent, and addiction psychiatry. He is also a federally-funded researcher and Medical Director of a Denver-based treatment program for adolescents with co-occurring disorders where elements of the ENCOMPASS model are utilized on a daily basis.

Constance KleinConstance Klein, LSCW
Director of Training and CBT Clinical Supervision

Connie is a nationally recognized expert clinician and trainer in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Her leadership and expertise has been instrumental in developing the manual-standardized CBT/MI component of ENCOMPASS.

Marilyn MacdonaldMarilyn Macdonald
Director of Operations

Marilyn has more than 30 years experience working with agencies to identify logistical requirements for the successful implementation of research-based treatments in community-based clinical settings. Most recently, she implemented large scale research-to-practice programs involving variations on the ENCOMPASS model in national sites.
