University of Colorado Pediatric Externship Program

Dear Students,

Thank you for your interest in our 4th year pediatric electives here in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado.

We appreciate your enthusiasm and we encourage you to apply for one of our courses.  It is important for you to know that the University of Colorado School of Medicine uses the AAMC’s Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for our visiting student clinical rotations.  Unfortunately, we cannot accept externship inquiries outside of this national application service.  If you aren’t sure about VSAS, we recommend that you talk to the registrar at your school and see if your school has a VSAS account.

Our 2017-2018 application period for visiting students will open on March 1st; however, we will not make a final decision from the pool of applicants until May of this year.  In order to be considered for a course it is imperative for you to complete the online application provided below.  This application is supplemental to our university application process, so you still need to complete the VSAS application.

Disclaimer: The University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics Externship Program’s primary purpose is to provide an outstanding clinically based educational experience for visiting medical students.  Being accepted for an externship rotation with our institution does not constitute or imply an endorsement by our residency program and sponsoring faculty.  Application approval and participation in a rotation does not guarantee an invitation for an  interview for a residency position. In addition, availability for a preferred sub-specialty rotation is left to the discretion of each division considering the division’s resources and the needs of learners who are already part of the University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics.
