Electroencephalogram

Why this test is done: This test is performed to record electrical signals in the brain.  This may be helpful to confirm some diagnoses such as epilepsy.

What to expect: You will be asked to lay on a bed and a technician will place electrodes on your head. You will be asked to relax and if possible, fall asleep. Your brain waves will then be recorded. You will not be able to feel this.

How to prepare: Do not sleep more than 4 hours the night before your test. Then come to your appointment tired and drowsy, assisted with a driver. Do not consume caffeine or any other products to help you stay awake as this may interfere with the test results. Be sure your hair is clean and does not contain any styling gels or sprays.
