Welcome to the Division of Geriatrics
MISSION
The Center on Aging at the University of Colorado Denver is an interdisciplinary program whose purpose is to be a national leader in the development and dissemination of new information and methodologies of health care to promote better health for elderly persons
This will be accomplished by:
- Development of high quality innovative clinical programs for elderly persons in the ambulatory and institutional settings.
- Education of health community professionals at all levels in both discipline specific aspects of geriatric care as well as in interdisciplinary aspects of geriatric care.
- Promotion of collaborative efforts in research in basic, clinical and health services research.
OVERVIEW
As part of the University of Colorado Denver's effort to enhance the development of primary care and interdisciplinary care at this academic medical center, the UCD Chancellor, the Deans of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Graduate Education, as well as University Hospital founded and provide core support to the Center on Aging (COA). Governance is provided by the Deans Council, plus the Chancellor and a University Hospital Representative. The Center on Aging has representative faculty from each of the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing. Additionally, several key faculty from the other CU schools, University of Denver, Denver Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), and community affiliates retain COA membership. Under the "umbrella" of the Center on Aging (COA) are the following:
- Division of Geriatric Medicine, School of Medicine
- Geriatric Vascular Section
- University Hospital Senior's Clinic
- Geriatric Fellowship Program
