New Division Head
Oliver Eickelberg, MD is the current head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, marking a new chapter in the long, rich history of the division.
Hailing from Germany, Dr. Eickelberg has built a reputation as an innovator, starting early in life when he chose to pursue a career in medicine instead of engineering, as was the family business. That choice led him to study at Universities in Switzerland, Austria, and America giving him a unique worldview perspective of medical training. Dr. Eickelberg later returned to Germany where he utilized those experiences to create The Comprehensive Pneumonology Center (CPC) in order to develop the next generation of scientists.
Throughout his career Oliver has earned numerous accolades in respiratory medicine and has risen to the top of several institutions, becoming Chairman of The Comprehensive Pneumonology Center of the Comprehensive Pneumology Center Munich, a joint initiative of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, the Asklepios Klinik Gauting, and the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich; the Director of the Institute of Lung Biology and Disease at Helmholtz Sentrum München; and the Vice Chairman of the German Center for Lung Research.
"Oliver will expand upon the current strengths of the Division and will lead the next generation of pulmonary and critical care physician scientists," said interim division head Marvin Schwarz, MD.
