Dr. Tan joined the UCD Faculty in March 2009 as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine. He also has a secondary appointment at the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics, Colorado School of Public Health. He is a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center, Developmental Therapeutics Program.  Dr. Tan obtained his Ph.D. in computer science/bioinformatics from the University of Glasgow. Subsequently, he received his post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering (2004 – 2007) and at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2007 – 2009).

Research
Dr. Tan is the Director of the Translational Bioinformatics and Cancer Systems Biology laboratory (Tan Lab). His lab develops and applies computational/machine learning and statistical methods to integrate high-throughout and complex biological data sources for biomarker discovery and the identification of aberrant signaling pathways in tumors. Dr. Tan is also the coordinator of the bioinformatics and biostatistics group of investigators working in developing new algorithms and statistical methods to analyze next-generation sequencing data at the UCD School of Medicine.
