I am the PI of the Mountain Plains AIDS Education and Training Center (MPAETC), which is a HRSA-funded project to teach health care providers about HIV infection. We cover 8 states: CO, KS, NE, NM, ND, SD, UT, and WY, and have been funded since 1988. Although the grant is primarily a training program, we have completed research projects in the following areas: various training methods (self-study modules, interactive training sessions, standardized patients, longitudinal/multimodal training), how clinicians learn, and hard-to-reach providers. In addition, I have worked with the CDC on two projects in which we studied Prevention with Positives and Retention in Care.
