Pediatric Pathology Fellowship
The Department of Pathology at Children's Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine offers a one year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in pediatric pathology. The program provides training in pediatric surgical pathology, perinatal pathology, autopsy pathology, pediatric forensic pathology, transfusion medicine and apheresis, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, virology, flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics and electron microscopy. Areas of pediatric subspecialty expertise include GI and liver disease, pulmonary disease, cancer and blood disorders, bone tumors, neuromuscular disease, dermatopathology, ultrastructural pathology, molecular pathology, and transfusion medicine.
Children’s
Hospital Colorado is a beautiful 383-bed pediatric hospital on the Anschutz
medical campus in Aurora, Colorado, and serves the Denver metropolitan area and
the greater Rocky Mountain region with a growing network of care. Ranked #7 in the latest US News and World
Report poll, Children’s Colorado is a major teaching site for the Department of
Pediatrics and all pediatric surgical subspecialities. The clinical laboratory is an 18,000
square-foot modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained
personnel, performing over 1.2 million tests annually. The Department of Pathology at Children’s
Colorado receives over 7,500 surgical cases, 2,700 cytology cases, 650 bone
marrows, 500 consultation cases, and approximately 40 autopsies annually. The Colorado Institute for Maternal and Fetal
Health includes a fetal surgery program and the affiliated University of
Colorado Hospital provides more than 350 perinatal autopsies and placentas
annually for examination. The pediatric
pathology training program includes 14 faculty, including 5 board-certified
pediatric pathologists, 1 pediatric hematopathologist, 2 neuropathologists, 1
obstetric and gynecologic pathologist, 1 forensic pathologist, 1 molecular
pathologist, 1 transfusion medicine pathologist, 2 cytogeneticists, 1 pediatric
electron microscopist, and 1 pediatric microbiologist/virologist, many of whom
have been awarded for excellence as medical educators. The close relationship between Children’s
Hospital Colorado, University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Office of the
Medical Examiner, and Colorado Genetics Laboratory allows the fellow to draw
upon expertise and resources in virtually every area of diagnostic and
experimental pathology. The fellowship
year can be tailored to the individual interests of the fellow, and mentorship
is provided for scholarly projects, quality improvement activities, and future
employment opportunities. Funding is
provided for local and national pediatric pathology meetings, and attendance is
encouraged.

Requirements:
Applicants should have completed training in an approved residency program in AP or AP/CP and must be eligible for subspecialty board certification in pediatric pathology following completion of fellowship training. Applications for appointment beginning July 1 wil be considered until February 1 of the same year.
