Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. As a pivotal entry point for accessing acute care at both the University of Colorado Hospital and Denver Health Medical Center, we invest ourselves daily in our mission to provide international leadership in emergency medicine through exemplary patient care, academic innovation, clinical and bench research, medical student, resident and fellow education, and community service.
Initially established in 1985 as a surgical division, Emergency Medicine became an independent academic department in January, 2010. With renewed dedication, we are now building upon our solid foundation to further develop research and teaching capabilities and thereby create both new opportunities and knowledge.
There is much work to do to address critical needs in communities locally, nationally and internationally. However, the breadth of Emergency Medicine’s capabilities in areas such as cardiac resuscitation, care of the critically ill and injured patient, high altitude and wilderness medicine, toxicology, disaster response and training, emergency medical services and injury prevention are but a few examples of expertise which enable our team to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
It is our hope that this website will introduce you to information about our faculty and programs that both spark your interest in our work and encourage you to investigate us further. We welcome your input – please contact us and let us know what more we can do to answer your questions.
