It is also renowned for its Rare Materials Collection consisting of nearly 5,000 books and serial titles on all aspects of medicine published between 1483 and 2014, most of them from the nineteenth century. Join your classmates, fellow alumni, and friends for a behind the scenes look at library; centuries-old books will also be on display of, including works by Andreas Vesalius, Charles Darwin, Govard Bidloo, and many more. The Center for Human Simulation (CHS) is a synthesis of human anatomy and computed three-dimensional imaging. This synthesis resulted in a three-dimensional, high resolution database of human male and female anatomy (the Visible Human) as derived from direct analysis of anatomical specimens and radiological imaging. The general purpose of this Center is to facilitate the collaboration of anatomists, radiologists, computer scientists, engineers, physicians and educators to promote the application of this and other anatomical data to basic and clinical research, clinical practice and teaching. The goal of this research training program is to educate the anatomist of the 21st century, a new type of anatomist/computer imaging specialist. The Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE) is housed in an 18,000-square-foot space at CU Anschutz. This space includes 15 examination rooms, 3 consult rooms, and 4 high fidelity simulation rooms that can function as an OR, Emergency Room, hospital room, ICU, labor and delivery suite and apartment. The CAPE space allows medical students and clinicians to perform small and large scale educational and assessment activities using standardized patients and high fidelity mannequins, and tools for health profession learners across the spectrum of training—setting new, national standards and transforming medical education in the 21st Century.

His scholarly activities focus on the history of science, with specific focus on Louis Pasteur’s work as a chemist and on the history of chemical warfare, including the moral and ethical aspects. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) is well known for his scientific discoveries. However, it is a little-appreciated fact that he was a talented graphic artist who as a young man produced dozens of fine images, mostly portraits. Although at age 20 he stopped working as an artist, he retained a lifelong interest in the arts and was a patron of the arts and artist. Moreover, his artistic talents likely played a key role in his first major scientific discovery. This presentation will trace the artistic genius of one of the history’s preeminent scientific thinkers.
