Currently based in Beijing and Nanjing, this 6-credit design graduate-level urban design studio focuses on the complexities of conducting global design practice in rapidly urbanizing regions of the world.
The studio offers a unique opportunity for urban design students to gain exposure to the extraordinarily fast-moving world of design and development in a metropolis of nearly 20 million people. The studio operates within a fluid network of professional and governmental actors, who are directly experienced in navigating the factors and circumstances relating to contemporary urbanization. Students develop a complete project considering factors of legal, political, economic, and disciplinary consequence.
This multidisciplinary studio is required of all Master of Urban Design (MUD) students but will also include 4-6 MArch or MLA students. These students must check with their Chairs to confirm they will receive advanced studio credit. All interested non-MUD students shall provide a 1-2 page statement of purpose (why you want to join the studio, what you will add to the studio), a portfolio, a CV and a transcript to Richard Epstein (repstein.design@gmail.com).
