Threaded Discussions

How do I post a thread in eCollege?

  1. Find the correct Unit/Week/Module. Contact the instructor if you are unable to find the Threaded Discussion.
  2. Click Thread/Threaded Discussion/Discussion (depending on your instructor).
  3. View the main question or instructions above the posts found under "Topic".
  4. You may Respond to the Topic, your instructor, or a fellow classmate. (See your assignment details before posting.)
  5. When you are ready to post, click "+ Respond", and type your response in the textbox. (If it will be a long response, you may want to use Word or Notepad first so that your internet browser will not timeout and log you out of eCollege before you complete your post.)
  6. Add an attachment if necessary.
  7. Click "Check Spelling" on the text toolbar.
  8. Click "Post Response".

How do I mark threads as read or unread?

  1. Find the correct Unit/Week/Module. Contact the instructor if you are unable to find the Threaded Discussion.
  2. Click Thread/Threaded Discussion/Discussion (depending on your instructor).
  3. Click "Show Options".
  4. Select the check box beside the threads you want marked as either read or unread.
  5. In the Mark selected as drop-down list, select either "Read" or "Unread".
  6. Sort your threaded discussion by read (opened) or unread (unopened) responses.

Are there additional functions

  1. Expand All: This is located on top of the page right below the ‘Respond’ button. This allows you to expand all the posts in the discussion so that you can view all of them in one read without having to click on each individual post.
  2. Show Options: This is located right next to the ‘Expand All’ button. The options under this tab allow you to mark specific posts as being either Read or Unread. You can do so by checking the box next to the specific post(s) and then clicking either the ‘Mark Read’ or ‘Mark Unread’ option
  3. Printer Version: This is one of the options available under the ‘Show Options’ tab. This displays a more printer-friendly version of the discussion page in a new window that can then be printed out for easy reading.
  4. Sort by: This is located on the top right hand side of the discussion page. Here you can sort the posts by either ‘response’, ‘author’, ‘date’, ‘read’ or ‘unread’; by clicking on the respective buttons. By default, it sorts by ‘response’.
