Program Requirements

There is no difference in​ requirements (number of credit hours) if you take your CU Denver courses online or on the Auraria ​campus.

  • Bachelor Degree in Criminal justice = 120 Total Credit Hours
  • Core Curriculum = 37-39 credits
  • Major (Criminal Justice) Requirements = 36 credits
  • General Electives = 45-46 credits

CU Denver Requirements

In addition to required sociology courses, CU Denver has a set of core university requirements for all undergraduates. These include courses in:

  • Humanities
  • Social sciences
  • Behavioral sciences
  • Natural/physical sciences

CU Denver also requires that students demonstrate competency in mathematics and writing, either through testing or coursework.

Combined BACJ & MCJ Degree

The School of Public Affairs offers a Bachelor of Criminal Justice/ Master Criminal Justice joint degree that allows you to earn graduate level credit while completing courses required for the BA in Criminal Justice degree. A total of 15 dual credits can be applied to both degrees.

The dual degree is designed so that the Master of Criminal Justice degree can be completed with one additional year.
