How Online Courses Work

A-Typical Classroom

Just like a traditional classroom, you’re able to ask questions, share notes and make plans to study with classmates.

Your online and hybrid courses are delivered through Canvas.

Sample Courses

*NEW* You can see what online courses actually look like. Since these courses are no longer live, you don't need a username/password to explore them. Simply visit our sample course page to get a better idea of what to expect in your online courses.

Professors and Faculty

The on campus CU Denver professors and faculty are the same ones teaching your online courses. Four out of five full-time faculty hold doctoral degrees with many years of teaching experience, and many are actively engaged in their fields outside the classroom.

Almost without exception, you are expected to participate in the threaded discussions. The amount of time you'll spend is up to the instructor. The syllabus within the course shell should give you an idea.

Assignments and Exams

Some professors offer weekly assignments to help ensure you are right on track with the materials being taught.  Exams are taken and administered in a variety of ways...

  • Online within your course shell with an internet browser.
  • As a “take home” exam where you print a hard copy and hand it in.
  • Or in-person, where you physically go to a supervised location.

Read a little more about the online experience.

Value of a Degree

Is a college degree worth it? The research shows a degree can make a pretty big difference (like a $1,000,000 difference).
