CU Online Loves New York and We Love CU Online! So, start spreading the news! The 2017 CU Online Spring Symposium is happening:
Thursday, May 18th, 2017
8:30 am - 3:00 pm
CU Denver Campus

Breakfast and lunch will be included and there will be an optional happy hour at the end of the event. 

This event is free for faculty and staff of the University of Colorado, all other attendees will be asked to pay a $50.00 registration fee.

2017 Online Innovator Award: Call for Nominations
​CU Online seeks nominations for the 2017 CU Online Innovator Award. Each year this award recognizes and honors an outstanding CU Denver | Anschutz faculty member for efforts in improving education through the use of technology. Now in its sixth year, the CU Online Innovator Award recipient will be recognized during the Symposium. 2017 Keynote Speaker: John Lester
 "I never expected you to use it that way." - Exploring how VR and Virtual World Technologies are Shaped by People.

In this presentation, John will explore the exciting evolution of technology behind VR, virtual worlds and videogames while untangling how these technologies are all related to each other. He will explore the past, present and future state of VR and virtual worlds while telling some illustrative stories about specific people and communities who have shaped these tools in very unexpected and amazingly beautiful ways.

John Lester has worked with 3D virtual worlds and educational online communities for over 20 years, creating online patient support groups at Massachusetts General Hospital for people dealing with neurological disorders and disabilities, developing immersive learning environments for medical students at Harvard, leading the development of the education market in Second Life at Linden Lab, and building bespoke VR and virtual world platforms for universities and businesses. His experience includes product management and software development using platforms like Unity, Unreal and OpenSimulator to create multiuser educational experiences for both VR-based and desktop applications. John strongly believes that the opportunity to leverage online communities and virtual worlds to increase social good and positively change people’s lives has never been greater.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Virtual Ability Inc., a non-profit organization helping people with disabilities by building online communities of support using 3D virtual world technologies.  For more information about John, please see
