All new international students in F or J visa classification, including any transfers from other institutions within the US, are required to attend a mandatory Check-In & Essentials Session. A "hold" is automatically placed on your registration for classes until you sign up to attend one of these sessions. Once you sign up, the "hold" will be lifted. However, if you do not show up for the session, the "hold" will be placed back on your student account, preventing you from registering for classes in the future.
The Check-In & Essentials Sessions are designed to facilitate your successful start at CU Denver! We want to use this time to welcome you, to get to know you, and to share with you some essential information. These sessions are separate from the main CU Denver New Student Orientation and are also separate from any orientation provided by specific academic departments.
During the session, ISSS staff will be collecting documents and information from you that are required in order to report critical information to the US Department of Homeland Security regarding your arrival and your program of study. In addition, the session is designed to educate new students regarding immigration regulations that relate to their period of stay in the US. Also, students will be provided with information about campus services, how to obtain US social security cards and driver’s licenses, cultural adjustment issues, health services and insurance, and more.
