Get to know our TIPS team!
Teaching Innovation and Program Strategy | TIPS Dec 10, 2024
The Staff Spotlight gives our campus community a chance to get to know more about our TIPS team members and what they do! Today we'll be featuring our Instructional Accessibility Specialist, Katherine (Kady) Katona.
How do you bring your previous professional experiences to bear on the work you do here with TIPS? For over a decade I taught in South Korea, Australia and then later in Colorado. This collection of multicultural experiences sparked my interest in teaching and learning which led me to get a Masters in Teaching at Sydney University. I’ve always been interested in discovering new ways to engage and support learners and found the Instructional Design graduate program at CU Denver to be a new challenge. It was through that program I discovered my new role- Instructional Accessibility Specialist. It has been very rewarding helping faculty to better support students.
What’s a project you’ve worked on recently that you are proud of or excited about? My recent Anthology Ally training went well and encapsulated a great deal of information that will hopefully help faculty to better support their students in a more accessible way.
What do you find most meaningful about your current role? The support from cohorts has been the most meaningful. I have enjoyed making new relationships with those across the campus. Working with other like minded folks provides a sense of camaraderie.
Finally, tell us a little about yourself outside of work! Outside of work I’m busy keeping up with my two little boys and a precocious beagle. I’m an avid live music fan, reader, and a big Avalanche and Nuggets fan.
