From your faculty to your family, we all experience uncertainty about our futures.  You don’t have to navigate these feelings alone.  The Career Center in LynxConnect is here to help you understand these feelings so you can feel confident about your future and impact our communities in meaningful ways.

Everyone knows that the Career Center can support you with resume creation & reviews, job searching for full-time or part-time positions, and help you brush up your interview skills through a mock interview appointment or our interview software, Big Interview

However, not everyone knows the Career Center can help you figure out what you want out of your college experience and what life after graduation can look like. It's big stuff, let us help.

Cyndey Hughes, introduce yourself!

Hi!

Originally from Wisconsin, I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO). While at UWO, I fell in love with working with college students as a student employee in the Undergraduate Advising Office. After graduating from UWO, I spent time working in Graduate Admissions with Benedictine University in Lisle, IL and as the Program Manager for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In 2017, I moved to Colorado Springs where I completed my MA in Leadership with a concentration in Student Affairs in Higher Education from UCCS and worked as a Career and Academic Advisor for Pikes Peak Community College.

After 8 years of working in various departments within Student Affairs, I have finally found my home in Career Services. What I love about Career Counseling is being able to connect the dots for students to help them achieve their professional goals. I enjoy helping students develop the mechanical and tangible skills necessary to excel in the work force while discovering more about their values, goals, and interests along the way. I’m looking forward to building on my career counseling skills, engaging with students through workshops and 1:1 appointments, and becoming engrained into the CU Denver community. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, traveling, reading, and playing with my two dogs.

Emily Farrer, your turn!

Hello!

I am originally from Lexington, KY, and received my bachelor’s degrees in music and Psychology with a Spanish minor from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.

I fell in love with my undergrad experiences of studying abroad, teaching cello, and tour guiding, and like many students, was absolutely clueless what to do once I left. After two years, four jobs, and a lot of self-reflection I moved to Colorado to get my graduate degree in Counseling and Career Development at CSU. I graduated in May, two months before beginning work here at CU Denver.

I am excited for the future, despite it being unknown. Although I know I want to stay in higher education, I’m still exploring whether that is in the role of a career counselor, Director, or Professor. Time will tell as I continue to reflect on my values, skills, and interests. And of course, no bio on me would be complete without mentioning my passion for Spider-Man and mint Mentos. I am very excited to be here and to play a role in enhancing students’ experience with all of you!
