Graduate Student Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees are approved by the Colorado Board of Regents and may change from those shown here. Graduate student tuition rates are calculated per credit hour, and are assessed by course based on the graduate student tuition rates determined by each school and college.

Student Services Fee

(Per Term Fee) 

$185.00​​Provides funds for a number of student support programs and events including: Academic Success and Advising Center, Alternative Breaks, Career Center, Center for Identity & Inclusion, Club Sports, Commuter Services, Convocation, Counseling Center, CU Denver Live!, Experiential Learning Center, Learning Resource Center, LGBTQ Student Resource Center, Lynx Mascot, Office of Student Life and Campus Community, Orientation, Peer Advocate Leader Program, Peer Education Program, Scholarships Office, Student Government, The Sentry Student Newspaper, The Writing Center, Veteran and Military Student Services, and Women and Gender Center. This fee was approved by the student government.

Auraria RTD College Pass Program Fee (Not Offered for Fall 2020)

(Per Term Fee)

$0.00​​The Auraria Student RTD College Pass provides unlimited RTD bus for Local, Limited, Express, or Regional service, as well as light rail service in all fare zones. The fee also provides a $5 discount on all SkyRide routes to Denver International Airport. It is not valid for special services such as, but not limited to, the BroncosRide, RockiesRide, Access-A-Ride and Guaranteed Ride Home programs. Students must get and display a valid term decal on their ID badge for RTD inspection. This fee was approved by student vote.

Information Technology Fee

(Per Credit Hour Fee) 

$12.00​​Provides funding for acquisition of technology to support student computing laboratories including computers, printers, and networking infrastructure, as well as technology in proprietary and CU Denver owned classrooms.

Student Information System Fee

(Per Credit Hour Fee) 

$2.00​​Provides funding for maintenance of the student information system (ISIS) used to support such functions as admission and application processing, course registration and grade reporting, degree audit and graduation checkout, awarding of financial aid, payment of tuition and fees and production of transcripts. This is assessed per credit hour.

Wellness Center Fee

(Per Credit Hour Fee) 

$6.00​​Fee supports the construction and operation of the CU Denver Wellness Center and CU Denver Field.  Fee will be $6 per credit hour beginning in Fall 2015, increasing to $12 per credit hour in Fall 2017. Minimum fee for students taking 3 credits or less is $18 per term for Fall 2015-2017, $36 beginning Fall 2017. Fee maximum for students taking 15 credits or more is $90 per term for Fall 2015-2017, $180 beginning Fall 2017. This fee was approved by student vote.

New Student Fee

(One-time fee for incoming students)

$94.32​​A one-time non-refundable charge required of all new students (including transfer students) at the time of their first registration as a degree seeking student. This charge covers the costs of new student orientation, graduation, immunization, and student ID card.
Health Insurance:  International Students (mandatory for visa categories F-1, J-1, and J-2)$2,200.00​​The University of Colorado Denver has a mandatory health insurance plan for all international students in the non-immigrant visa categories of F-1 and J-1 as well as students on Practical Training (OPT). Students may qualify to waive out of the University issued student health insurance plan if an existing health insurance policy meets all University’s health insurance requirements.

International Student Fee

$150.00​​Provides funding for implementation and maintenance of the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), immigration advising, advocacy, academic advising, cross cultural adjustment support, and other services provided to international students by the Office of International Affairs. Permanent Residents are exempted.

Office of International Affairs: Study Abroad Fee$400.00This fee funds the Office of Global Education's operational expenses and costs for administration of study abroad advising, risk management, registration, and records. The Study Abroad Fee is charged when registering for STDY 3995/5995 to maintain full time registration at CU Denver while the student is studying abroad, during which time CU Denver tuition and other fees are not charged for main campus courses.  This fee is charged only for the first term when there are consecutive terms abroad.

Students with College Majors in the Business School

$66.49All majors in the Business School are required to pay a per term fee that covers costs associated with advising and career counseling, networking, and placement specific to the School.

Students taking College Courses in the Business School

$18.00All students enrolled in at least one Business School course are assessed this per credit hour fee which funds computer lab equipment, instructional materials and technical assistance, including teaching assistants, research assistants, and business databases necessary for instruction.

Students taking College Courses in the College of Architecture and Planning

All students enrolled in at least one College of Architecture and Planning course are assessed this per credit hour fee which covers costs associated with the design fabrication shop, computer lab, and visual resource center. These costs include wages and benefits for lab and center managers and student monitors/assistants, equipment maintenance and replacement, and information technology infrastructure.

Students with College Majors in the College of Arts and Media

All majors in the College of Arts and Media are required to pay a per term fee that covers costs associated with academic and career advising, advising support and initiatives, and major-specific events and services.

All students enrolled in at least one College course are assessed this per credit hour fee which covers the cost of art models, guest lecturers, instructional equipment and materials, and course-related activities and events such as field trips and student exhibitions.  It also covers costs associated with operating, staffing, remodeling, and maintaining program labs and computer labs.

Students with College Majors in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing

$90.00All majors in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing are required to pay a per term fee that covers costs associated with advising, career fairs, resources for certification exams, internship placements, and career networking events.

Students taking College Courses in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing

(Per Credit Hour Fee) 

$44.30All students enrolled in at least one College of Engineering, Design and Computing course are assessed this per credit hour fee which funds academic support for students (lab monitors, teaching assistance, tutors, group events, Senior Design projects, etc.), laboratory and field laboratory expenses (facilities, equipment, technical assistance, equipment maintenance, lab modifications & maintenance, student field research expenses), and support for engineering societies and other expenses associated with encouraging student engagement and promoting student success.

Students taking Undergraduate Bioengineering Courses

(Per Credit Hour Fee) 

$49.37All students enrolled in at least one undergraduate bioengineering course are assessed this per credit hour fee.  This fee will be used to support high cost lab and design expenses unique to courses in the bioengineering program, including academic support for students (lab monitors, teaching assistance, student projects, ect.) and specialized laboratory and field laboratory expenses (facilities, equipment, technical assistance, equipment maintenance, lab modifications & maintenance).

Students with College Majors (except PRBU, PREN, UDLA) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

$83.88All majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are required to pay a per term fee that covers costs associated with advising, graduation evaluation, and oversight of student awards.

All majors in the School of Education and Human Development are required to pay a per term fee that covers costs associated with major-specific advising, an assessment system required by accreditation standards, and Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment software that tests student intercultural competence.

Type Fee Description
Internationally Sponsored Student Charge $100.00 Administrative charge to international sponsors of students enrolled at CU Denver. This fee is only assessed to sponsors. The charge funds an International Sponsored Student Coordinator to meet the needs of sponsor organizations as well as provide support to sponsored students.
Course Drop Charge $100.00 Beginning the second Tuesday of the semester until census date a drop charge will be assessed each time a student drops a course. If a student withdraws (therefore dropping all classes), a drop charge will be assessed for each course. Students should consult the official Academic Calendar for specific drop deadlines each semester.
Deferred Payment Plan Charge $35.00 Students who sign up for the Deferred Payment Plan, which allows their semester tuition and fee balance to be paid in three monthly installments. The fee applies each semester when signing up for the payment plan.
Returned Check Charge $20.00 Students who submit invalid bank items (checks, e-checks, etc.) to CU Denver are subject to a returned check charge of $20 each item. This includes but is not limited to items returned for insufficient funds, stopped payments, and invalid account numbers.
Outstanding Balance Service Charge   ​​Students who do not pay their tuition and fee bill by the payment due date indicated on their electronic billing statement are subject to a service charge each month on the past due portion of their account balance. Students who do not pay their tuition and fee bill by the payment due date indicated on their electronic billing statement are subject to a late charge each month on the past due portion of their account balance.
