Right Here, Right Now: Meeting the Moment for Our Students

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration has inspired CU Denver alumni from across the decades to take a walk down memory lane. Among them is Patty Imhoff MBA ’89, who has many great memories of the campus, probably the most special being when her husband, Mike, proposed to her in the Tivoli.

Patty and Mike started dating when both were students at CU Boulder in the 1980s. Not long after their graduation, Mike popped the question at Club Tivoli, a beautiful restaurant in the catacombs of the Tivoli when the building was a shopping mall and housed some of Denver’s trendiest spots. The campus and the Tivoli remain important in the life of their family.

When their daughter, Katie, was in high school, her prom took place in the Tivoli. Katie is now a graduate student in the School of Public Affairs and a staff member on CU Denver’s Advancement team. Patty and Mike, meanwhile, have remained active CU alumni for almost 40 years. During this anniversary year for the campus, Patty and Katie reflect on CU Denver’s impact.

Early Childhood Education Grows Up

Lisa Roy MA '96, EdD ’16 leads one of the state’s most important initiatives — free universal preschool education — as well as its first new department in nearly 30 years.

Roy's appointment is a milestone, and not just for her. It marks the culmination of a years-long effort to elevate the importance of the state's early childhood services by putting them under one roof, and giving them cabinet-level oversight. The department itself was formed by the state legislature in 2021, becoming the first new department to be created in nearly 30 years — and the last one currently allowed by law.

Dan Gilbert
"It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" Human beings were designed to worry, but not necessarily about the things that matter most. Our nation argues and agonizes about problems of no importance while shrugging at those that could spell our doom. Why? Professor Gilbert will explain why our brains evolved to ignore the looming disaster of climate change and will suggest some ways that we might still outsmart them.
