There are several different kinds of designated student study areas set up across campus. Some of these spaces are for quiet work; others allow students to have a private space to participate in remote coursework before or after their on-campus course. Academic advisors will continue to support students during remote learning. For undergraduates, visit the Undergraduate Academic Advising website and look for Remote Advising Details at the top of the page to get help. Graduate students should work with their primary advisor or program director.
About one-quarter of fall classes (686 of 2,574 sections) will have on-campus instruction, either as a completely on-campus course or as a hybrid course. All other classes will be held remotely or online.
Let your instructor know about your situation as soon as possible. In many cases, you can still attend your class sessions via Zoom. If that is not possible, you and your instructor may still be able to work out alternative arrangements. Make sure that you and your instructor are in agreement about any alternative arrangements and expectations.

The ongoing nature of the pandemic requires us to stay flexible, so be aware that on-campus or hybrid courses may need to be changed to a remote or online format if conditions require it. Courses that are currently listed as remote or online are set and will not change to include an in-person component.
Hybrid courses were designed to have an on-campus portion due to the hands-on nature of the content. If you are sick or do not feel comfortable coming to class, you should reach out to the instructor to discuss the possibility of completing the entire course remotely. However, as the course format was selected to deliver the highest possible quality experience, there is not an expectation that faculty must approve these requests.
If you already know that you will be uncomfortable coming to campus or unable to do so, we recommend that you enroll in online or remote classes. These types of classes do not require you to come to campus.
All students who want to conduct field research will need to obtain authorization. An application process for fieldwork is currently being established. More information will be shared once the details of the application process are finalized.
Your professors will communicate with you close to the start of the semester to give you more information about the days you will need to be on campus. They will also share additional information about what the virtual portion of the class will look like. Keep an eye on your CU Denver email address as well as Canvas to make sure you don't miss any updates.
“Zoom capable” means that if a class is on-campus or hybrid, but the student is sick or does not feel comfortable going to campus, they can opt into attending the class remotely via Zoom. Students who need this option should clear it with their instructor.
Both of these course formats are virtual, in that no on-campus attendance is required. The difference is whether class time is scheduled or unscheduled (synchronous or asynchronous). A remote class will have scheduled meeting times, and the class will meet via a videoconferencing technology such as Zoom. In an online class, students access the course material on their own schedule, usually following weekly or biweekly modules. For this reason, online classes do not have a “first day of class,” although you will definitely want to log into your class during the first week so you can make sure you are completing any assigned work on time.

Field research (off campus research) does need approval before it can be conducted. A formal process for approval will soon be available through the safe return website.
