Boulder County Fires: Support and Resources

Dec. 30, 2021

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Like many of you, I have been watching the news – and outside my window -- in disbelief as grass fires are spreading across Boulder County, towns across the county are being evacuated, and a state of emergency has been declared. At this time, more than 1,600 acres have burned, nearly 600 homes among the damage. Thousands are evacuating the area, including members of CU Denver and the broader University of Colorado System. I have been in close contact with the CU System and our sister campuses as current conditions and needs are assessed. Our Boulder campus is also in direct touch with the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and is keeping us apprised of the latest updates.

Please know that our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy, including members of our own Lynx community, and we are here to support you. First and foremost, if you are in or near the vicinity of the fires, follow the guidance of the OEM carefully. A number of resources are available for affected individuals and families (listed below), and if you have personally been impacted and need additional support, email us at, and we will get back to you as quickly as possible. We also ask that you follow us on Twitter for real-time updates.

This has been another year filled with uncertainty and unbelievable challenges. In times like this, we must be there to lift each other up. We are a family – a Lynx family – and we will do what we need to do to get through this together.
